Television writers are currently on stike in Los Angelos and have been for the three days. The reasoning for the strike is that these writers want to be paid for DVD sales and internet downloads. I am saddened to report that The Office has halted production. It's pretty upsetting to think that for a while each Thursday will come and go without a new The Office episode to watch. What am I going to do?...Watch my three seasons of DVDs? psh. No, I need some new material. (But I really will just watch my DVDs...that these people aren't getting paid for...).
Despite how much this might frustrate me and other TV viewers that just want to watch a new episode of their favorite show, these writers should get paid for the DVD sales and internet downloads. I'm surprised that they don't. Here, watch this video on the post below this one that the writers for The Office shot while on the picket line:

Utica, Utica, Utica on The Office!!
This week on The Office, Michael and Dwight decide to trick Jim into going a road trip to the Utica branch of Dunder Mifflin to pull a prank. Now, this may seem of little significance, but to my family it is way cool. See, Utica is the homeland of some of my fam and the alma mater of my mom! So that was very cool, even if didn't even film it there.
I think Ugly Betty is one of the best shows on television. What I want to know is if there is an office anywhere that actually looks like Mode. For example the huge tunnel hallways that branch off of the circle room where Amanda works at the front desk. If I ever achieve a Mead level position at a magazine I think I'll make my office like that...
I bought the new Carrie Underwood CD "Carnival Ride" on iTunes last weekend. The upbeat songs are really catchy. They have a more country feel to them as opposed to her last album, on which the songs were a bit more pop/country. While the upbeat songs are fun, the slow songs drag and I find myself switching to the next song halfway through them. Overall it's a good album and I'd definately recommend it.
If you want the best dinner ever go to Fagaen's on Marshall St. and order a chicken pot pie. The chicken and veges are inside a mashed potato "pie crust". It is amazing! And if you want Chicken Salad, I would steer clear of Aladdins...
Happy Daylight Savings!

SU Basketball practice
This afternoon my Dad particpated in the Coaches vs Cancer Walk With the Cuse walk and then I joined him for the basketball practice afterwards. I will try to write what I can remember, however unlike my Dad, I did not leave myself a voicemail with notes to post online after the practice, so I might not remember a whole lot.
First off, Sean Williams. His wingspan is 7'9". He's 6'10". His arms are practically past his knees; its crazy!
Johnny Flynn: the last time we "met" he crushed our (Fairport's) chances of advancing further in the state play-offs. This time wasn't that much different because the Fairport Basketball coaching staff was sitting to my right...just like that last game. Yes, Coach Fitch was there and no, he wasn't wearing that yellow shirt (fvc you know what i'm talking about).
But about Johnny...he is gooood. He had at least 3 solid three pointers.
Dante Green was pretty good too, he hit 2 nice 3's.
There is this junior college transfer named Kris something. He impressed me. He's tall and and I think he'll contribute a good amount to the team this year.
I didn't really catch a lot of Rick Jackson or Scoop Jardin....
Paul Harris was Paul Harris. He slip n' slided across half the court just to try to stop a ball from going out of bounds. He wasn't successful.
Injuried Red Shirter Andy Rautins worked the stationary bike and stairmaster next to the court the whole practice. He didn't looked too thrilled.
Sorry, that's about all I can recollect. I think I was so facinated by Sean William's arms that I didn't pay all that much attn to the game. But, if you want a more detailed report of the practice look for my dad's post somewhere on an SU Bball message board.

"What up world, this is Sway..." & American Gangster preview + more

Thursday night I had the pleasure of seeing Sway Calloway of MTV News speak here at SU. Most of the journalism students here probably watch Mike Tirico or Dan Rather to watch the big interviews. I, on the other hand, watch Sway, so I was very excitied for this opportunity. Just to show how much of a music news dork I am, I remember all of his "All Eyes On" interviews, especially Justin Timberlake's. That was easily 5 years ago and I still remember what they talked about.
I had no i dea how much of an influence Sway had on hip-hop. Bascially Eminem + others got record deals because he exposed them on his radio show. Sway did both Tupac (who he was friends with) and Biggie's last interviews. Overhis last 7 years with MTV, Sway has changed its format and how they portray African Americans. But my fave part of his speech was the celeb gossip...like Timbaland bashing Britney Spears before the VMAs...and MTV not letting Sway air it...and then MTV let Sway go on celeb tabloid shows and bash her.
Sway's words of advice for us journalists: Be a Hustler, baby. He just wanted us to know, it ain't where we've been, but where we're bout to go. But seriously. He told us we have to hustle and brand ourselves in order to make us stand out and edge off the competition.
Tonight a sneak preview of Denzel Washington's new flick American Gangster was shown here. It's a great movie, a little harsh at times, but never boring. Let me just say that I'm sooo glad I don't live anywhere near gangsters.
THURSDAY NIGHT TV WAS BETTER! I was so happy! Grey's was much better than last week. I'm not sure whose side I'm on with the Callie-George-Izzie drama and I don't like that Meredith and Derek aren't dating, but it's better.
The Office was still an hour long and despite the more serious plot, I really enjoyed it for a change. At first I was skeptical about Jim and Pam being together because that 'ugh just get together already' feeling that has been there for the last three seasons is gone. However, this episode made me really happy that they're finally together...and being nice to Dwight. I feel so bad for him. One of my favorite lines of the night was from Kelly. She said about Darryl: "He is the most complicated person. He says exactly what he is thinking...who does that??". haha
And last but certainly not least, Wed. 10/17 would have been the beautiful Bailey Goodman's 18th Birthday. So I just wanted to say Happy belated Birthday angel. We love you and miss you SO much here!

First entry: thursday tv sucks and where is basketball?
Hey everyone! This is my first blog. Seeing that I'm a journalism student, I have a lot to write, and what better way to say everything, than to start a blog!
First off, Thursday TV sucks now. I thought with such great cliff hangers at the end of last season that shows would start off strong, but I guess I thought wrong.
Grey's - was it just me, or was last night kind of boring? The show was lacking in the good content department. None of the medical cases were that interesting, and how weird was it when Derek called out Sloan and the Chief? It just seemed out of place. That show needs some serious writing help, pronto.
And The Office - now, I'll admit that I'm The Office OBSESSED, but for the last two weeks I've been disappointed. I didn't laugh once watching last night's episode. Dwight and his new facial hair were more creepy than funny trying to beat the computer, and the hostage pizza boy part wasn't that funny either (maybe because I read about it in last week's Entertainment Weekly beforehand). Actually, no wait. I did laugh once. When Michael and Jim arrived in NYC for the launch party, only to discover that the party invitation was actually just an invitation to a chat room. Maybe next week when the show returns to the regular half-hour episodes there will be more laugh.
And Betty is as great as ever. If you aren't watching Ugly Betty, WATCH IT!
I've gotta post that yesterday I had my first Devo sighting on campus this semester. This is after I thought I saw him at a gas station in The Middle of Nowhere, NY this summer, so I was rather excited to finally catch a glimpse of the real deal. Only 23 more days until basketball season starts. Too bad I can't even go to the game, because the Bio 121 exam was rescheduled to a Sunday night. Who takes exams on Sunday nights?
